Ecliptic Ships RocketCam™ System to QinetiQ-1 Project

2002 Jul 19

UPDATE, Sep 24: The QinetiQ-1 team announced that they had to postpone their balloon launch until spring 2003 because the weather hadn't cooperated this season.

Ecliptic has shipped a complete RocketCam™ onboard imaging system solution to the QinetiQ-1 high-altitude balloon project in the UK. The QinetiQ-1 team is converging on a mid-summer launch in their attempt at breaking the 40 year-old world record for high-altitude human balloon flght. Dramatic color video of the entire 12-hour flight will be beamed live to the BBC by Ecliptic's end-to-end RocketCam™ system, consisting of seven onboard cameras, a downlink transmitter and ground-based receiving gear. Aboard the balloon platform, space-suited pilots Andy Elson and Colin Prescot will switch among stunning camera views using special camera switching equipment built into the RocketCam™ system.
