Ecliptic Shuttle RocketCam™ to Debut on Next Atlantis Launch

UPDATE, Oct 2: The Atlantis launch was postponed to Oct 7 due to hurricane Lili.

UPDATE, Sep 19: NASA has posted an animation of the expected RocketCam views during the launch.

Anticipation is growing for the views from the first RocketCam™ in the Space Shuttle Program, expected October 2 from onboard the giant external tank of Shuttle Atlantis. The RocketCam system was turned on briefly this week during final testing activities at the launch pad, and NASA officials provided a background briefing to the press on the genesis of the Shuttle RocketCam effort, nature of the RocketCam hardware and Shuttle integration issues, and expectations on launch day.
