Spirit Lands on Mars!

2004 Jan 03

NASA's Spirit rover successfully landed in Mars' Gusev Crater right on schedule today, around 8:35 pm PST.

Ecliptic designed and built the electrical test equipment for the rover's robotic arm (as well as for its twin, Opportunity) and supplied the RocketCam™ video systems that provided dramatic views of both launches this past summer from onboard the Delta II rockets. The robotic arm on Spirit will be operated starting in mid-January.

Follow the coverage of the post-landing events and Mars surface science activities — including the flood of stunning Mars surface images already flowing back to Earth — at Spaceflight Now.
